I have almost14 years experience and expertise developing and training faculty (adjuncts and full time) as Coordinator of Instructor Development at Empire State College. From 2007-2020, I developed, maintained, coordinated and facilitated training and development opportunities for 500+ faculty as it relates to effective practices in online teaching and learning and adult learning as well as applying institutional policies and practices to create rewarding educational experiences for students. My deep understanding of training and development, online pedagogy and communication practices, combined with using LMS applications, provided comprehensive training and support to faculty.
In 2011, Ms. Lawrence’s efforts were recognized by the Online Learning Consortium (Sloan Consortium) for Excellence in Faculty Development for Online Teaching and Learning. Her professional development includes the completion Quality Matters certifications such as Applying the Quality Matters Rubric and Teaching and Delivering an Online Course, Accessibility Compliance training, and
Online Teaching and Delivery certification courses through the Sloan Consortium, now known as the Online Consortium. I have been a member of the POD Network and was a early participant and member of Open SUNY developing a set of competencies/best practices for online teaching. My experience using a variety of technological applications to create and deliver training and development opportunities and programs on a continuous basis provides me the skill set and understanding needed to adapt easily to learn new and emerging applications. My experience includes applications such as Moodle/Moodlerooms, Blackboard, Kaltura, Microsoft 0365 Suite of Products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Outlook, Teams), Elluminate (Bb Collaborate), Camatasia, Captivate, Skype, Adobe Suite, Google Apps, Voice Thread, Turnitin, and other multi-media tools.
My passion is in training and development and supporting professionals whether it is learning the nut and bolts to meet the requirements of the position, or to provide development to hone skillsets for continuous growth.
I also have several years experience coordinating a conference for online learning with 200+ attendees.
I hold a Master's of Arts degree in Communication Studies from the University at Albany with an emphasis in organizational, rhetorical and interpersonal communication. Since 1995, my experience also includes teaching a variety of online and classroom studies in the area of Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication, Managerial Communication, Managerial Competencies, and Communication and Public Speaking including teaching for 8 years in the former FORUM Program at Empire.
