Jones began her graduate work in English Literature (Old English Literature and Folklore/Mythology) before changing directions to study vegetation dynamics and landscape change in an oak woodland in Northern Illinois. She continued her research in forest dynamics at Lake Superior Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, where she analyzed tree rings and soil characteristics to assess the impact of acid precipitation on sugar maple forests. Jones is interested in working with students on a range of environmental issues related to environmental change, conservation, and sustainability. Common studies she offers include Forest Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Natural Disasters, National Parks, Dendrology and Environmental Science Capstone.
