La Tasha Brown

Dr. La Tasha Brown is the inaugural Manager for the State University of New York (SUNY) Empire State College’s Shirley Chisholm Center for Equity Studies. The Shirley Chisholm Center for Equity Studies examines the legacy of slavery and colonialism, addresses ongoing racial and economic disparities, and develops policy solutions to work toward a more just and equitable society. Through an examination of the connections between historical racism and today’s structural inequities, the Chisholm Center aims to create opportunities for underserved communities, and to achieve racial and economic equity through education.

Dr. Brown is a strong education professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Comparative Cultural Studies from the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. Dr. Brown holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in African New World Studies (now African and African Diaspora Studies) with a concentration in Cultural Studies from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History, with a minor in English Literature from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
