Dr. Jolie V. Kennedy, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of in the Educational Technology and Learning Design Master's Program at SUNY Empire State University. Dr. Kennedy has extensive experience in higher education, serving as professor, academic coordinator for multiple graduate certificate programs, and committee member at SUNY Empire State. Prior to joining SUNY Empire in 2023, she served as full-time faculty and Academic Coordinator for the Learning Technologies program at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Kennedy was recognized with Excellence in Teaching awards at the University of Minnesota in 2020 and 2021, and received the Qualitative Inquiry Award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology in 2019.
Dr. Kennedy's research focuses on online learning environments, AI in education, technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), and phenomenological approaches to educational technology. She has published in journals such as Education Sciences, Distance Education, and the Journal of Interactive Online Learning. Dr. Kennedy has co-authored book chapters on AI-enhanced personal learning environments and quality online learning program design. She has served as a reviewer for multiple journals, including Distance Education, Educational Technology Research and Development, and the International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning. Dr. Kennedy is currently leading a substantial grant proposal for the Institute of Education Sciences to explore artificial intelligence in postsecondary education for adult learners.
Dr. Kennedy's presentations and professional activities focus on AI integration in teaching and learning, inclusive learning experience design, and connected learning ecosystems. Recent presentations include "Writing-As-Thinking in the Age of AI: Teaching Higher Order Thinking Towards Just Learning Experience Design" at AERA and "TPACK as a guide for integrating AI: Catalyst for critical learning" at the Conference on Teaching and Learning with AI. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA), Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), and Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE). Dr. Kennedy continues to expand her expertise through additional training in AI for higher education, evidence-based teaching using generative AI, and online teaching foundations.
