John Hetherington

John T. Hetherington is a mentor in the Humanities Division of Empire State College, where he serves as a faculty advisor to more than 110 students. In addition, he teaches a range of Communication studies, including Introduction to Communication, Media Writing, Communication Analysis, and others. As a mentor, he also teaches educational planning studies for his students. He holds a Master of Science in Communication from the Roy H. Park School of Communication at Ithaca College, where he gained insight not just into the communication process but also the role of powerful learning experiences among adult learners. He continues to participate in regular continuing education and training in such areas as the Community of Inquiry model of education and specific skills and techniques that benefit adult learners and distance learners. He has worked and continues to work as a communication consultant and a communication specialist. He is currently serving as a social media consultant for his church, where he manages the social media feed and develops best practices to develop a strong and welcoming online presence. He continues to participate actively in research in the field of communication, particularly in his area of special interest, the history of broadcasting.
