Brief Bio: Cheryl A. Murphy is an alum of SUNY Empire State University and now a faculty mentor and instructor here. In 1992, she secured her AAS degree at SUNY Fulton Montgomery Community College followed by an Advanced Training Certificate in American Sign Language (ASL) from the College of St Rose, Albany, NY. Years later, after starting a family and having three children, she graduated from SUNY Empire with a BA in Cultural Studies with a concentration in ASL, followed by a Master of Arts in Adult Learning from SUNY Empire State University. She has over 15 years experience as an adjunct for SUNY Fulton Montgomery Community College, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Studies, and SUNY Empire teaching various courses. She works as a freelance community interpreter focusing on education, medical, cruise interpreting, and interpreting for developmentally challenged Deaf individuals. Ms. Murphy was awarded the 2015 SUNY Chancellor's award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
Teaching Philosophy: I King Jordan stated, "Deaf people can do anything except hear." This touches my heart deeply because I understand deafness is no disability.
