Heather Horowitz

With over 18 years of service in higher education, I am thrilled to be part of the Empire State University faculty as an assistant professor of higher education leadership for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Change program.

My most recent role was adjunct faculty at West Chester University (PA) and Wilmington University (DE). I taught a variety of higher education courses at the master’s and doctoral levels and proudly served as the adjunct program coordinator for the WilmU Higher Education M.Ed. and Graduate Certificate programs. Prior to my transition into academic affairs, I was a student affairs practitioner. My professional portfolio includes experience in residence life, campus activities, new student orientation, leadership development, commuter life, supervision, assessment, program development, diversity and social justice, and civic engagement. Previously, I was the director of engagement and new student programs at Arcadia University (Glenside, PA). Prior to Arcadia, I served as the associate director of student engagement at Jefferson University - East Falls (formerly, Philadelphia University) and as a residence director of the First Year Experience residence hall at Rider University (Lawrenceville, NJ). I proudly earned my Ed.D. from Wilmington University and my M.A. and B.A. from Rider University.

Giving back to the field through association membership and volunteer roles is very important to me. I have been involved in various professional organizations such as the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). I am a certified Emotional Intelligence EQi-2.0/360 Coach and Facilitator and have also completed the StrengthsQuest, Introduction to Strengths-Based Education (SBED100) training.

I absolutely love advising doctoral students through the dissertation process and designing and teaching courses involving student affairs, program development and assessment, ethical leadership, and academic research and writing. My research interests involve inclusive and equitable teaching and learning practices.

I am a Long Island transplant living in Philadelphia, PA. I love the New York Yankees, coffee, and TV. When not teaching, I am most likely binge watching shows from the 90s and 00s, cycling (indoor and outdoor), or spending time with my amazing and supportive wife.
